WARNING
Use caution when probing into soil to avoid hitting buried electrical wires or other underground utilities.
Use caution when handling and transporting this meter, as its sharp metal tip could cause damage to packaging, containers, or personal injury.
Always use the included tip cover when transporting the meter.
METER COMPONENTS

- Cap for Battery Compartment
- Cap for In-Handle Rod Storage
- LCD Display
- Power Button
- Color Moisture Status Indicator LED Lights
- Sensor Head
- Retaining Ring
- Soil Temperature Sensor
- VWC & EC Sensor Rods
METER ASSEMBLY

As pictured above, with the meter facing you, install the handle with the battery compartment cap (1) in Fig. 1 by turning the handle clockwise until hand-tight. Do the same for the handle with the in-handle rod storage cap (2) in Fig. 1. Once both handles are attached, use the included hex key wrench to tighten the locking screws.
Store extra rods in the left handle. Install three (3) AA/LR6 alkaline batteries (included) in the right handle.
USE OF PRODUCT

Press the POWER button to turn on the meter. The display will show the battery level and the serial number. Next, the rod length will appear—make sure this matches the rods installed (see the Changing the Rods section). Then, the WET and DRY thresholds will be shown for easy reference.
The meter will then begin reading sensor data and update the screen every second. If not used for 15 minutes, the meter will automatically turn off to save power.
All meter settings and configurations are managed through the SpotView™ Mobile App (see the App Installation section).

The color LED moisture status indicator lights up only when the moisture level is above 1.0% volumetric water content (VWC). If the meter reading is less than the DRY threshold, the red LED lights up. If the meter reading is between the WET and DRY thresholds, the green LED lights up. If the meter reading is greater than the WET threshold, the blue LED lights up.
Adjust the WET and DRY thresholds using the SpotView™ App when connected to the meter.

The LCD display can be set to show %VWC in large text, or %VWC, temperature, and EC (mS) values in smaller text. Temperature can be displayed in either °F or °C.
All display settings are selected using the SpotView™ App when connected to the meter.
With Auto Average enabled, the meter’s LCD screen will show a running average of readings. This average can be reset by turning the meter off and back on.
With Auto Save enabled, each reading is automatically saved to the SpotView™ mobile app when the meter is withdrawn from the soil. This effectively performs the same action as pressing the Save Reading button in the SpotView™ App and then vibrates the mobile device to confirm that the reading was saved.
When using these automatic features, there is a pause between inserting the meter into the soil and when an LED turns on. This is because the meter waits for a stable reading before initiating the LED display. Therefore, averaging and/or saving occurs only if the user waits for an LED to light before withdrawing the meter.
CHANGING THE RODS

- Twist off cap (from left handle)
- Pull rods out
- Insert new rods
- Firmly tighten cap (Do NOT use tools). Tighten until there is no gap.

After installation, use the SpotView™ App to set the correct rod length (see Configure Meter Settings). Each time the meter is powered on, the selected rod length will appear on the screen.
CHECKING THE METER’S ACCURACY
Each meter is factory-calibrated using a 10-point calibration process that can be confirmed in the field as follows.
Before testing, check to see if the rods appear bent and straighten them if needed. Next, wipe the rods clean and dry them fully. Testing should be performed with both the meter and the distilled water at room temperature.
With both hands on the meter’s handles, hold the meter so the sensor rods are suspended in the air. The meter should read 0.0% ± 0.0% VWC in air.
Place the meter in distilled water so that the entire length of the rods is submerged. Do not submerge more than approximately 1/4 inch of the sensor head below the surface of the water. Assuming both the meter and water are stabilized at room temperature, the meter should read 100.0% ± 3.0% VWC in distilled water.
CHANGING THE BATTERIES

The LCD will show an empty battery icon, as shown in the picture above, when it is time to change the batteries. Remove the battery compartment cap on the right handle by turning it counterclockwise (see (1) in Fig. 1). Insert three (3) AA/LR6 alkaline batteries noting polarity, then securely tighten the cap.
Each time the meter is powered on, the display will show the remaining battery life.
Note: Battery life will display correctly only for alkaline batteries.
REPLACING TEMPERATURE PROBE TUBE

- Loosen retaining screw as shown.
- Gently remove old probe tube from housing by twisting and pulling. DO NOT CRUSH TUBE!
- Remove old O-ring from inside housing.
- Install new probe tube over temperature sensor and push into housing. Tighten retaining screw.
